Step 1: The Pulse (Four-on-the-Floor Kick)
Every classic techno beat starts with a **four-on-the-floor kick**. This creates the solid pulse that anchors the track.
Here, we place a kick drum on beats **1, 2, 3, and 4** (steps 1, 5, 9, and 13 on the sequencer grid).
Step 2: The Anchor (Adding the Clap)
To add energy and mark the structure, we introduce a **Clap** (or Snare) on the backbeat.
In standard 4/4 time, the clap sits on beats **2 and 4** (steps 5 and 13 on the grid). This builds a rhythmic conversation with the kick.
Step 3: The Drive (Off-beat Hi-Hats)
Now we add the **Hi-Hats** to create momentum and groove.
By placing an **Open Hi-Hat** on the off-beats (steps 3, 7, 11, and 15), we inject that classic forward driving feel that defines dance music.
Step 4: The Groove (Closed Hi-Hats)
To fill in the gaps and complete the pattern, we place **Closed Hi-Hats** on the intermediate steps.
We add closed hats on steps **2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16** (positions 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15). This completes the basic 'techno groove'!
